Project Management: Academic Information

Undergraduate degrees and minor

The foundational courses for the Bachelor of Science in Project Management, Bachelor of Applied Science in Project Management, and the Bachelor of Professional Studies with a concentration in Project Management degree completion programs include topics such as project scheduling and controls, effective team leadership, organizational and project risk management, project procurement and supply chain management, and stakeholder engagement.

The minor in project management requires 15 hours of the foundational project management courses and one elective option.

Master's degrees

The Master of Engineering in Project Management and the Master of Science in Project Management degrees are 33-credit-hour programs which require 12 credit hours in the fundamentals of project management.

The fundamentals courses strengthen students' knowledge and ability to apply the theories and concepts of project management in the real world.

The additional 21 credit hours are made up of core and elective courses.

Core courses cover topics such as interpersonal and persuasive communication, managing teams and leading people, and financial management. The M.E. core also includes a course in engineering management.

The degree is rounded out with a broad list of 12 elective options. The M.E. requires three electives, and the M.S. four electives. Topics include contracts and procurement, managing consulting projects, risk management, cost estimation, analysis, and control, global projects, team management, and management in an Agile environment.

Students in these programs must also complete a capstone project.

Graduate certificate

The Graduate Certificate in Foundations of Project Management is a 12 credit graduate-level certificate designed to provide industry content and skills for the professionally minded student.

This graduate certificate serves as an introduction to the fundamental aspects of Project Management, with an emphasis on planning, organizing, and managing resources to bring about the successful completion of specific project goals. The program is for individuals who have at least two years of professional experience in project management or management systems.
