KU School of Professional Studies
The KU School of Professional Studies provides academic programs, research opportunities, and engaged and flexible learning initiatives that serve the educational needs of students in Kansas, the Kansas City metro area, and beyond. Contributing to KU’s research, engaging the community, and providing services is included in our mission.
Research
KU is recognized as “very high research activity” as an R1 institution according to the Carnegie Classification. The University is also one of America’s leading research institutions as a member of the AAU (Association of American Universities).
SPS faculty and students pursue research, teaching, and community outreach on a broad range of topics, in academic fields of study that include biotechnology, criminal justice, health sciences, and more. Students can also gain extensive research experience through immersive honors program coursework in their field of study as well as study abroad opportunities.

The KU Edwards Campus hosts several community events throughout the year that include movie nights, concerts featuring local artists, speaker series, special programs, and more.
SciFlix: A Date Night With Your Brain
Sciflix is a monthly event hosted by the Biotechnology program faculty that is open to the public. You’re invited to enjoy a feature film followed by a panel of experts who discuss the science, theories, and ethics brought about in the story.
Rock Chalk 5K
The Rock Chalk 5K Run/Walk is an annual community event that helps support first-generation college students at the KU Edwards Campus in Overland Park.

For 24 hours, Jayhawks from around the world united to support KU and The University of Kansas Health System. The proceeds from funds raised from the Edwards Campus campaign support students who may face financial barriers to completing their educational goals.
