Professional Performance Degree & Minor
Program overview
Developing a personal brand goes beyond influencing friends or family on social media. If you’re an artist, athlete, musician, entrepreneur, content creator, or aspiring influencer wanting to build a career on your unique talents, the Bachelor of Applied Science (BAS) in Professional Performance can provide the knowledge and systems to prepare you for success.
Building a public image, engaging an audience, and monetizing your talents, skills, experience, and expertise require strategic thinking, leadership, and communication skills. On top of these skills, students will learn:
- Strategic and technical aspects of self-promotion
- Entrepreneurship
- Content and brand creation
- Web design
- Personal and business finance
The professional performance coursework provides foundational knowledge in marketing, public relations, communication, financial and career management, sports management, and entrepreneurship. Students will customize their degree with a combination of elective courses and a minor that applies to their individual interest and expertise.
As the first professional performance degree offered in Kansas and the Midwest, this program covers the spectrum of training and experience students need to accelerate brand development, growth, and reach. You’ll learn from experienced professionals who have built their own businesses, created original content, and understand how an individual brand fits into an entrepreneur’s journey.
Professional performance career outlook
The career possibilities for professional performance graduates are vast. You will be equipped to work across a variety of industries including sports, entertainment, marketing, and entrepreneurship. We put students in the driver’s seat of their own careers by giving them the tools to grow a content business around their interests or promote their talents and personal brand. You’ll learn to secure partnerships that elevate your income beyond what you earn from your athletic, artistic, performance, or musical career alone.
The explosion of the creator economy, the growth of digital media platforms, and an insatiable consumption of content of all kinds mean these roles are in high demand as small businesses and large corporations alike.
