Students working in a lab

“I get one-on-one attention and we really focus on why things work the way they do.”
-Kristy Alonso, KU sophomore

biotech experimentsInterested in pursuing a biology or biotech degree in college, and want to gain hands-on lab experience? Join our research apprentice program!

KU Edwards Campus research apprentices are high school juniors and seniors and community college students who assist our senior students with their capstone research projects during the spring semester. Research apprentices work side-by-side with KU students in the lab generating data, interpreting results and presenting experiment findings.

As an apprentice, you’ll learn:

  • How to work in a laboratory
  • How to work with equipment
  • How to write and read scientific reports
  • How to plan and execute a successful experiment

To become a research apprentice, students must be 16 or over. No prior lab experience is required.
