Biography —
Lieutenant H. Myrone Grady has always felt destined to be a Jayhawk, born at the University of Kansas Medical Center in 1974, never leaving his Kansas roots, and ultimately becoming a dedicated member of the Lawrence Kansas Police Department since 2003.
Lt. Grady grew up on the sunflower side of the state line and eventually earned a college scholarship to play football and Butler Community College where he was all-conference in 1993. Grady finished his athletic career at Fort Hays State University, graduating with a baccalaureate in social work in 1997. He then remained at his alma mater as a college football coach while earning his master’s degree in liberal arts with a focus on Political Science and Justice Studies.
Lt. Grady began his professional law enforcement career as a patrol officer on the streets, while honing his innate passion to mentor and lead. Nearly 20 years later, in 2022, Chief Rich Lockhart brought him into the Office of the Chief as the department’s first Executive Officer of Diversity and Community Engagement.
Through his time at LKPD, Lt. Grady has worn many hats. Grady’s devotion to community youth was quickly recognized and he was selected to serve as a School Resource Officer and named the Kansas SRO of the Year in 2011. After being promoted to the rank of Sergeant in 2012, his hard work brought him assignments as a front-line patrol supervisor and administrative sergeant. Lt. Grady spent several years helping lead the Lawrence Police Department’s Investigations Division where he oversaw and supervised many high-profile investigations. He was promoted to the rank of Lieutenant and has served both the city and citizens of Lawrence ever since.
As a dedicated community servant, Lt. Grady has spent his entire career focused on improving the lives of young people in Lawrence and engaging the community through various relationships and partnerships with nonprofit organizations at the grassroots level and beyond. Lt. Grady has served on the Board of Directors for the American Red Cross, Just Food, Big Brothers and Big Sisters, Boys and Girls Club, and Van Go!.
Lt. Grady looks forward to continuing to educate and inspire life-long growth and learning in people of all ages as a part of the team at the University of Kansas in the School of professional Studies.
