Biography

Matthew François, M.S., PPS brings over a decade of distinguished law enforcement experience to the University of Kansas, with expertise in executive protection, risk management, and threat assessment that has directly enhanced public safety and organizational security. As the Detail Lead for the Kansas City Mayor’s Protection Detail, he directed strategic security operations and implemented innovative strategies to mitigate high-level threats. Earlier in his career, Matt served with the DUI Section, earning multiple commendations for advancing public safety and revitalizing the department’s Youth Alcohol Program, significantly increasing community engagement and its annual state grant funding by 16%.

Matt holds a Master of Science in Criminal Justice and Criminology from the University of Missouri-Kansas City and a Bachelor of Arts in Criminology and Justice Studies from Avila University, graduating cum laude while excelling as a collegiate football player. He is a Certified Personal Protection Specialist (PPS) and has completed Tactical Combat Casualty Care (TCCC) training as well as advanced executive protection programs through the Missouri State Highway Patrol and the Gavin de Becker Institute. Matt is a graduate of the Executive Protection Institute (Class 94) and a proud member of Nine Lives Associates, an exclusive network of executive protection professionals.

He has taught criminal justice courses at the University of Missouri-Kansas City and Avila University, where he is recognized for his dynamic teaching style and ability to inspire students through practical insights.
