Nutrition: Academic Information
Nutrition influences health outcomes, community well-being, and the systems that support us. KU’s Bachelor of Science in Nutrition curriculum builds a rigorous scientific foundation across topics such as biochemistry, physiology, and microbiology and connects that knowledge to real-world applications in food systems, policy, and health care. You’ll delve into the scientific evidence, translate it into understandable language for laypeople, and use data to make decisions that improve overall health.
In this program, you will explore how biological, social, and environmental factors influence what people eat and how health differs across populations. Coursework empowers students to develop practical skills in nutrition assessment and counseling, nutrition education across the lifespan, and research methods and statistics for evidence-based practice. You will also explore career pathways, examine public-health approaches to improving access and outcomes, and apply advanced nutrition and metabolism to the treatment and prevention of disease.
KU connects you with a high concentration of hospitals, medical facilities, and clinical research organizations in Kansas City, including close collaboration with KU Medical Center and its Master of Science in Dietetics and Nutrition program.
Professional connections through speaker series, networking, internships, fieldwork, research projects, and community initiatives help you build career experience and momentum. A three-credit-hour capstone brings everything together, highlighting your readiness for in-demand roles or advanced study.
