Applied Biological Sciences: Academic Information
A KU bachelor’s degree in applied biological sciences offers a strong background in genetics, microbiology, cellular biology, and biochemistry, as well as hands-on lab experience.
Many applied biological sciences students continue to pursue advanced degrees in medicine, dentistry, pharmacy, veterinary, nursing, or graduate work in the health sciences, with high success rates. Graduates will have all the required courses to be eligible to apply for most med schools, plus some of the recommended, but not required, courses.
The program curriculum also aligns with some physician assistant programs, but program requirements vary. The degree can also lead to a career in clinical research, medical health services management, natural sciences management, organizational management, and more.
Graduates are well-prepared to go directly into industry, starting a career with biotech and life sciences companies, and government agencies in areas that are clinically, pharmaceutically, or bio-manufacturing focused.
