Biotechnology: Academics

Educational experiences through the biotechnology program will largely focus on applying scientific knowledge to solve complex problems. Students will identify problems, design and execute experiments, analyze results, and draw conclusions. They’ll spend significant time in the lab, learning by doing.

Students can tailor their degree to their career goals and round out their educational experience by selecting a required minor from the following list:

  • Discovery and Innovation in Biotechnology
  • Forensic Science
  • Pre-Health Professions

Depending on the minor track selected, coursework in the biotechnology program might include organic chemistry, molecular and cellular biology, physics, statistics, intro to biosciences, scientific and business communications, immunology, bioinformatics, quantitative analysis, and more. Students can expect extensive coursework in general science, bioscience core classes, molecular bioscience electives, and open electives.

A hands-on capstone project is required for all students. This valuable feature prepares them to be workforce-ready at graduation.
