Biography —
Laura Stratton is a capital defender and civil rights attorney. A 2013 graduate of the University of Chicago Law School, she has litigated federal cases on behalf of inmates with mental illness, argued appeals before the Kansas Supreme Court and the U.S. Court of Appeals for the Fifth Circuit, and briefed the U.S. Supreme Court. As an attorney and mitigation specialist, her practice has spanned Kansas, Louisiana, Illinois, Virginia, and the federal courts. In her personal capacity, she serves as the Legislative Lead for the Kansas chapter of Moms Demand Action, where she testifies before the Kansas legislature, advocates before Governor Kelly, and leads more than 150 volunteers annually in meeting with lawmakers on gun violence prevention policy. A native of Charlottesville, Virginia, she now lives in Lawrence with her husband and twin boys.
