Biography

Warren V. Dukes, PhD, joins the University of Kansas School of Professional Studies as a Professor of Practice in Criminal Justice, bringing more than two decades of experience spanning criminal justice practice, higher education leadership, and applied scholarship. His career reflects a deep commitment to bridging theory and practice through rigorous teaching, program development, and community-engaged work. He has taught extensively across disciplines to include criminal justice and sociology curricula.

Dr. Dukes has held senior academic and administrative roles, including Department Chair and Assistant Professor at Saint Augustine’s University and Academic Program Manager and Lecturer at Purdue University, where he helped design and launch innovative interdisciplinary programs, including degrees in Digital Criminology and Forensic Science. His academic leadership has emphasized curriculum relevance, student-centered learning, and workforce-aligned education. His scholarship includes peer-reviewed research on race, policing, and organizational culture, as well as co-authored national police reform policy briefs developed in response to contemporary justice challenges.

Complementing his academic career, Dr. Dukes has significant applied leadership experience in the nonprofit and public sectors, most recently serving as Vice President for Diversity, Equity, Inclusion, and Belongingness at United Way of Central Indiana. He began his professional journey as a correctional officer and served honorably in the United States Marine Corps Reserves—experiences that continue to inform his teaching philosophy and practical approach to criminal justice education. At KU, Dr. Dukes is committed to preparing students for ethical, data-informed, and socially responsive leadership in the evolving field of criminal justice.
