Biography

Will Akin has 23 years of law enforcement experience, supported by prior service in the United States Army. He began his policing career with the Phoenix Police Department and later served as a Police Advisor in Afghanistan from 2009 to 2012, mentoring local police chiefs and strengthening professional, ethical policing practices. In 2013, he joined the Clay County Sheriff’s Office, where he advanced through senior leadership roles before assuming office on January 1, 2021, as the 42nd Sheriff in the county’s 204-year history.

Will values teaching as an extension of public service, focusing on student engagement, critical thinking, and the practical application of leadership and ethics. His goal is to help students connect theory to real-world decision-making while preparing them for leadership in complex professional environments. He holds a Doctor of Education in Ethical Leadership and is a graduate of multiple executive programs, including the FBI National Academy.
