School of Professional Studies Teaching Engagement & Development Committee
Purpose & Overview
The Teaching Engagement & Development Committee (TEDC) promotes and supports high-quality, student-centered teaching across the School of Professional Studies (SPS). In alignment with KU's Center for Teaching Excellence (CTE), the committee fosters a culture of continuous improvement through faculty collaboration, resource sharing, pedagogical development, and personalized instructional coaching. The TEDC serves as an advisory and support network and is not a policy-making body.
Scope of Work & Responsibilities
The committee actively engages in activities designed to enhance teaching effectiveness and support faculty across two primary domains:
Faculty Teaching Support
- Review (with the instructor of record) student surveys of teaching and other feedback mechanisms to identify student learning trends and areas for growth.
- Provide confidential, constructive coaching and mentorship for faculty members seeking to refine their instructional methods.
- Assist with the development and implementation of additional teaching feedback processes.
- Identify, curate, and share evidence-based pedagogical practices across the school.
Instructional Tools & Resources
- Evaluate emerging teaching tools, methodologies, and instructional technologies.
- Recommend tools that enhance student learning outcomes.
- Support faculty in adopting new instructional strategies.
